Ok You got high end digital camera that uses CD card and you posted those picture but they arent optimized and they look junk. Photoshop heeellllooooo!!!
Ryan F - 01.02.04, 04:29

Ryan F, Andy is showing this just as a favor to the online community. Have it ever occur to you that Andy has a job too? Maybe a few girls to attend to?
Michael T - 01.02.04, 10:56

Andy doesn't have a job, he only take pictures of Koala everyday, oh and of course attend to the girls too. ;) Anyway, Ryan, who says every photo has to be National Geographic quality?
Sunny (link) - 01.02.04, 17:05

Interesting... can any CompactFlash card be used, or is it limited to (Hitachi?) MicroDrives?
Justice (link) - 03.02.04, 01:04

Justice, I believe CF. However, before you try, you should flash the CF to see if firmware goes in. I'm in the US so I'm not sure if the firmware works in US versions. Crossing my fingers.
Michael T - 04.02.04, 01:41

Justice, some CF cards can be used but not all.
Andy - 04.02.04, 03:18

Andy, I am reading that this Microdrive uses different CF connector pin out and operating voltage. Using it in camera can damage the drive and the equipment. Is it true from your experience or it is just to scare everyone off? I am planning to use it in Canon 300D camera.
Ning - 04.02.04, 05:46

It is NOT true.
Andy - 04.02.04, 10:23

Andy, Where do you get the MuVO 2 in HK? How much does it cost?
Pierre - 06.02.04, 07:08

Thanks very much for sharing your instructions here!

Is it a good idea to power up the Muvo2 before hacking it to ensure the drive is working first?

Dennis - 26.02.04, 17:16

Oops, not used to this web site. Sorry.
Andy, fine job of getting a lot of people to do the 4 gig for our cams. I am having trouble getting the firmware for Muvo2, can you help? Thanks again
Dennis - 26.02.04, 17:18

Dan, It should be.

Dennis, What's the trouble with the firmware?
Andy - 26.02.04, 19:48

Hi Andy, thanks for your great work. I just found in Broadway selling this thing again, do you know if this batch would work with the trick?
Ignatius - 26.02.04, 23:35

Thanks a lot for the instructions. Do you know which kind of CF is acceptable, and which is not? I'm about to buy one off ebay, however I'm not sure this trick is do-able, especially when the drive was not flashed before removing the micro-drive. Please advice - TIA -
Ken - 27.02.04, 05:27

hi could someone please explain to me hot to "you should flash the CF to see if firmware goes in" thank you
Daniel - 27.02.04, 11:16

I am interested in this project that everyone is doing, can anyone lead me in the right direction on what is functions is besides holding photos..
jesse - 04.03.04, 04:26

It is just a way to get a 4GB microdrive at a cheap price. Check whether your devices(digital camera or PDA) support such drive.
Andy - 04.03.04, 04:33

will this trick work for a sony dsc s75 cyber shot?
jesse - 04.03.04, 09:12

never mind that last post about the sony camera
jesse - 04.03.04, 09:17

Andy brought up a great point that EVERYONE thinking about using this hack should be aware of. MANY devices, including digital cameras, DO NOT support CF above 1 or 2GB!!! I have a Canon 10D that can access 4GB, but my 1 year old Canon D60 will not recognize drives over 2GB. Check your device specs to make sure you can use the drive. Oh, and don't assume that just because your camera (or other device) is new that it can access above 2GB.

BTW - BIG thanks to you, Andy.
Gibson - 04.03.04, 14:27

Andy, Thanks again I found the firmware.
Dennis - 04.03.04, 16:36

I think you will find that if your camera does not support drives above 1 - 2 gig then you can partition and format the drive to a size your camera will take by using a USB card reader in your PC. You will only get the 1 - 2 Gig in your camera now but you can reformat in the future if you camera needs change.
Todd - 05.03.04, 01:11

English Only Hi, we just purchased the Canon 5MB S50 and am wondering if this Flash memory will be compatible with this Digital camera?
Thanks for the Dark Tip
Sincerely, Cathy
Cathy - 05.03.04, 02:17

Can these drives be used on other devices? Like say a home made portable USB hard drive? I've been looking for a good storage option for my portable Gameboy Hard drive project.
DëMöN - 05.03.04, 02:37

nice!
ruffstik - 05.03.04, 09:47

First, this is an incredible tip, thank you I just ordered my MUVO2 4gb. My question is, when I went to the asia.creative.com web site to down load the firmware the version had changed from the one listed above to MuVo^2(4GB_uHDD)PCFW_US_1_11_01.exe

Note that the 10 changed to 11. Will this be a problem flashing a smaller replacement CF card. Thanks again.
Dave Thompson - 06.03.04, 10:30

I have a Fuji FinePix S7000 Camera. It says that Type II MicroDrive can be used with it. Will this work with this camera?
Bob (link) - 08.03.04, 10:03

The only problem you may experience with this drive is if your camera uses a fat 16 format. If that is the case, then it will only recognize 2GB. If it uses Fat 32, camera will use all 4GB.
Nick - 09.03.04, 11:33

There is rumor that this drive is now soldiered Anyone know about this?
Wade - 10.03.04, 01:26

Thanks for the tips! However, I couldn't update the firmware. The firmware I dnloaded from Creative is PCFW_US_1_12_01.exe It said that my player is not connected when I ran the program.btw, I'm using Scandisk 512MB CF. Would you give me more help on this, Andy? When you have time. Thanks a million!
Andy Chan - 10.03.04, 16:38

Anyone know if this works in pocket pc's??? (ipaq's, etc...)
Josh - 12.03.04, 10:53

I am going to use it on 4gig drive with my Canon Digital Rebel, but I am not sure what I asupposed to do. Can someone please explain it to me. Do I need extra software?
David - 13.03.04, 07:19

Hi Andy,
can you email me the firmware 1_10_01 ?
Thanks in advance
mike - 16.03.04, 06:02

Andy maybe you could upload the firmware 1_10_01 to some place like Driverzone.com so the rest of us can download it,
Terry - 17.03.04, 06:21

English Only

Just to let people know i have an finepix s7000 and will be trying the trick. I have been told that IT CAN DO 4GB. Its just HOW you partition it. Linux fdisk is the key.

I will post the howto, soon on my site.
Brad (link) - 19.03.04, 11:19

Does anyone know if the drive will work in a card reader?
Tom - 23.03.04, 05:18

I have bought 2 Muvo2s...one about a month ago and one manufactured in the last 2 weeks. Both contain a standard removeable CF+ microdrive. The more recent one has a 'warranty void if removed' sticker over one of the back screws. I got a Sandisk Ultra II 256MB working in one. A. you need W*****ws. The device communicates with non-standard commands across the USB. B. If the CF card does not 'format' in recovery mode, but gives a media error, it will not work.
Drool - 29.03.04, 07:03

Hi guys,
my problem here seems to be different; don't know if anyone else encountered it?
i am using SimpleTech 256MB cf card, it goes thru fine during format & firmware re-load. But as soon as I stop the hardware (using safe remove hardware) and disconnect the USB cable; it gives me error saying SmartScan failed & asks to go to recovery mode?
any ideas?
durg - 29.03.04, 09:35

the issue i am facing has been described here:

http://dmzweb3.europe.creative.com/SRVS/.. 497,Sxi=0,Case=obj(15967),VARSET=centric:,Kb=creative_cli_us

but it doesn't solve anything. as soon as i copy some songs to Muvo & disconnect the USB cable, i am back to square one :(

anyone?
durg - 29.03.04, 10:20

durg...this is a firmware problem. You need to update to a later firmware version
Drool - 30.03.04, 07:58

Hi Drool,

I have tried using both versions 1.11.1 & 1.10.1. latest is the 1.11.1 one i could find on creative's site.
Have you seen this issue on your player too?

Thanks,
durg
durg - 01.04.04, 15:25

I have a Dell Axim X5 and i was wondering if this microdrive will work with it? also, does anyone know of a website that would list not only the compatible cameras but pda's as well? Thanks in advance.
Dallas - 02.04.04, 01:37

Will any brand CF card work in the Muvo once you've done the hack and scavenged the 4GB card for other use?
I seem to remember seeing somewhere that some wouldn't work, and the only safe bet was a Sandisk. I'm going to put in a 256MB card, what should I get?
I've seen Vikings and PQI pretty cheap. I'm assuming Kingston is a better brand because they seem to go for more, Sandisk even moreso.
semysig - 06.04.04, 12:05

I just put a regular old 256mb SanDisk CFII card into my MuVo² and Andy's instructions worked like a charm. Make sure you go to the Asia Creative.com site to get the firmware reload. The only version offered on the USA site is for the 1.5 GB crosstrainer.

I love having the 4GB Microdrive in my Digital Rebel :)
Jeff - 06.04.04, 15:41

I get the CF256 MB card But shown MEDIA ERROR.
I try to another brand .but same this. Can you tell how to do it?
Thanks,
Kam
Kam Y - 07.04.04, 08:23

will a 340mb IBM microdrive (most likely one from before Hitachi bought IBM's hard drive manufacturing branch) be sufficient in replacing the 4gb hitachi microdrive in the muvo2?? I think it does have the same connectivity (CF+ type II). Any help would be appreciated.
Jack - 08.04.04, 13:09

Ok, I tried replacing the Hitachi with 4 other brands (Lexar, Mr. Flash, Viking, and Sandisk) 128 Mb cards. Only the SANDISK works. It's a simple, standard, 128mb card. Not Ultra. Not Ultra II. I think the Sandisk's are the best bet. Also, the driver/firmware update exe filename has changed. Look for this:

MuVo^2(4GB_uHDD)PCFW_US_1_11_01.exe

--Dave.
David_H (link) - 08.04.04, 23:14

-Props on the helpful instructions, Andy. I'm using the MuVo on a OSX Mac, and works well, after the 'operation' and firmware help from a friend w/ XP. --But I did notice something disappointing: After getting the MuVo set up, it only holds about 209 MB for a 256 MB Sandisk card. Is there anything to be done about that? -Does 40 MB lost seem reasonable? -Thanx again. --Troy.
Troy - 09.04.04, 15:10

Hey guys, can sombody list a clear detailed instruction on how to do this, i just got a Muvo2 on ebay with the Microdrive taken out. If this update is done, can i then change the size of the CF card at any time? or do i have to follow this precedure every time?.

CONFUSED.
ToRnAdO - 11.04.04, 07:58

Well what can I say but "help" ow please... ive tried the new and old type of the 256mb sandisk (not utlra's) and both give the same well knowen media error. if any could please give me a detail spec of there working CF cards in there muvo2 (4GB) and how to get a connection to the computer via USB, most of it is due to the CF not compatible but come on im now trying sandisk's with out any joy at all... if you can help please contact me at nomad.muvo2@ntlworld.com
James - 12.04.04, 06:08

I saw the stuff in my local online store, that is Nomad MuvoSQ 40 (4GB) for $350. Is it the same as Muvo2? Can I crack it also? But the price seems too high :(
xty - 12.04.04, 14:53

There is a new version of the firmware now: CMS_MVSQPlugin_LB_1_01_11.exe

Has anyone used this version? I ordered a Sandisk 512 MB CF card, I hope I can get it to work
Nightmare - 14.04.04, 11:15

Not alot of help is there?
ToRnAdO - 15.04.04, 05:00

Check it out. Basically, buy the MuVo 2. Use the 4GB drive for ANYTHING YOU WANT. If it doesn't work in the deivce, it won't ever. Period.
If you have a CF card that's relatively big, like 512MB or 1GB, then REFORMAT the new smaller card using the firmware updates from Creative.com. Then your MuVo 2 hacked should work.
Rob - 19.04.04, 11:58

Does anyone have any idea how to upgrade the firmware on the device if you don't have the 4GB drive? Or otherwise get the MuVo2 working with a CF card?

I purchased one of the shells on ebay, but it is not recognized by my PC and just gives "Media Error" when attempting to do anything on the device. I have a CF reader, so could put something on it before loading it into the MuVo2...

When I power-on the MuVo2 it says "Recovery Mode v1.00" and the first menu item says "Board v0.0.39". All other options in the recovery menu give "Media Error" when connected or not to the PC.

Thanks for any help you can give!
Adam - 20.04.04, 12:02

Well I bought a shell that had been updated to 1.11.01 and tried various CF cards with no luck. The nearest I could get was a 256MB card that would format and accept the reflash but would then fail when copying files from the computer to it. I then bought a standard original 256MB Sandisk and reformatted and reflashed. Worked perfectly. Can copy files to and from it and disconnects from PC again with no isssues.
Colin - 20.04.04, 23:21

when i formatted, i got the media error message, i flashed, it said it was successful and that it would restart, then it turned off and i cannot turn it back on, even with the original 4gb hitachi drive which i did not use yet.
anyone experienced this before ?
hip - 24.04.04, 03:39

I got a muvo2 to work with a 128mb SanDisk once i think i might try cutting a CF sized hole in the front to make swapping cards easier, adding a door and using a card reader to upload music; my comp seems to have issues...
ryckeley - 24.04.04, 07:01

I'm new to this forum. Any help or advice would be appreciated:-

1st: Is SANDISK the only CF card that would work in the MUVO after the original CF had been removed???
2nd: Is it a safe bet to buy a creative MUVO shell off ebay???
Winston - 24.04.04, 21:29

The id34 in my previous post did not work, however i discovered that the 128meg chip i used was in fact a LEXAR from wal-mart; and it worked once, i think our problem may be with Win***s not allowing the device to be removed properly. I hope some of that was useful.
ryckeley - 24.04.04, 23:50

crap - 25.04.04, 12:11

Is it true that the Creative is ONLY compatible with type 2 CF cards?
Winston - 25.04.04, 14:43

The hack to take out the 4 GB Microdrive, then replace it with a lesser quanity drive works (I use Sandisk). It flashes, formats and plays the songlist. The REAL problem is getting the 4GB Microdrive to fit PROPERLY in a device. I tried both my camera (Kodak 4900) and a Dell Axim PDA Pocket PC. The drive will NOT fit in either, and I had to practically ruin the drive to get it out with a small screwdriver which tears the plastic covering. The drive is THICKER than a CF card and thus james in units. Especially so like mine, which has on eject system to launch it out. It has to be manually pulled out, and if jammed as in my case, you take a chance of ruining the drive's protective coating. Caviat emptor, I wouldn't buy it again to try in my quipment. I'll try to replace it in the MP3 player shell, and retrieve my 256mb CF back. Oh, boy. Why didn't someone SAY it is thinker than the CD cards and jams. I cannot be the first to realize this, huh? ...
Jerrytt - 25.04.04, 18:16

Jerrytt, maybe your reader does not accept CF type II cards... and thus, no microdrive
hip - 25.04.04, 20:41

hey, Microdrives have always been thicker than CFII cards because of the stainless steel disc cover, i think they even get their own classification on flash writing devices(that's how you get "9" in one writers). anyhow if you can stomache it you might be able to use a rotary tool or wood working hand tools to give that extra millimeter of clearance.

Side note for earlier posts: going back over the steps i realized that the time i was able to correctly access the CF card in the MuVo^2 was in the recovery mode, kind of cheesey but it works, just select #1 and format the drive, upload your data, use the safely remove device utility of WinXP, remove the USB cable of and reboot the player to normal, works great, just makes me wish that i could justify a 4gig CFII card :)
hope this may have been helpful for someone out there. now to try the older version of the Firmware...
ryckeley - 26.04.04, 10:00

jerrytt, you're a dope. You shouldn't have even attempted this moron. Microdrives are type II devices. Wow- I can't get over what a dope you are!
yug - 27.04.04, 10:19

Ok .. Just fitted a 1gb IBM microdrive. Pre formatted as FAT on the PC. Powered up and got firmware error, it also flashed up board version 0.0.39, before posting recovery mode. (Connected to a PC the drive is recognised and can accept data.)I then formatted and ran the "muvo¬2(4gb)_pcfw_us_1_0_01.exe" file, rebooted and hey presto! working 1G player. Many thanks to all out there contributing.. I will try other firmware loads on my 1g Muvo2 and post results.
HT - 28.04.04, 06:49

Allright for all those folks out there, here are the findings of my experimentation, seems like there are two versions of sandisk 256 card, you can identify them by the way 256 is printed on the CF, in one version the "256" is printed with a thin font and in one of them is printed in a thick font, seems like the CF in which "256" is printed in thick and with "compact flash" written on the side is compatible with the muvo2. So the next ime u buy a Sandisk CF look for the thick printing and "compact flash" printed on the side rather than in the bottom. Otherwise your muvo wont work even with Sandisk.

Ok, I got the 4GB out it's working fine in my camera(though in 2GB formatting). But i can't get FC to woth in the muvo no matter what i do...

I get recovery mode, try to format, get media error right away and firmware update is saying that that player is not connected. So it doesn't run. Attepting to set mode for "Reload Firmware" creates Media Error as well....

I think i have the compatable 256(think font with CompacFlash on the side)

Help?

Attepting to set mode for "Reload Firmware" creates Media Error as well. Please email me at souzchef@earthlink.net. Thanks alot!!!
kevin - 01.05.04, 22:57

Hi Genna, what firmware version are you using to update ur player, try the old version of the firmware which is version 1.10.01 I think the new version is not campatible with even the best cards. and if you are using, the firmware 1.10.01 then try a different card I have heard that the lexar 256 4x works fine with the Muvo2.
jack - 02.05.04, 11:26

Does anyone know which of the Sandisk 512mb Cards work in the player? The one with the words "Compact Flash | on the bottom" or "Compact Flash | on the Side"??? one is made in 99' and the other 03'. I would like to know so i won't go nuts purchasing cards.

Hi guys!
I have just done the famous trick!
I put in a Sandisk 512Mb card (vanilla one!) and followed the instructions...

But I am using the firmware 1.11.01!!!
So I have voice record, radio etc etc!

ciao!

When I bring up the up date program with the USB cable pluged into the unit I get an error that says, device not connected. What am I doing wrong?

Than You
Michael - 19.05.04, 04:15

Same problem as Durg (29-Mar). Using a "Crucial" 128MB CF card. It will allow you to format and load your songs, but upon disconnect from PC, gives you a SmartScan error message. It doesn't seem to matter if you use USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 (more below) to load the songs.

Found a workaround:

If you receive the message:

"SmartScan Alert: Did not safely disconnect. / Connect PC and run ScanDisk"
1) Remove USB cable
2) Reset MuVo (remove battery & AC power, then re-install)
3) You will get a new message:

"SmartScan failed. / Unable to proceed. / Press MENU to start recovery."
4) Press MENU
5) Use option 3 to "Format All"
6) After format is completed, plug in USB cable.
MuVo will show it's "connected" display.
7) Use Windows to format drive (FAT32, Quick Format)
8) Load Music (NOTE: this will load at USB 1.1 speeds, much slower than USB 2.0)
9) Use "Safely Remove Hardware" to disable the MuVo.
10) On the MuVo, use option 6 to "Reboot"

Device will reboot and successfully load songs. Unfortunately, you may need to do this every time to change the songs :(
jedi - 22.05.04, 02:31

I extracted the MD from my Muvo last week and put an Apacer Photo Steno Pro 512MB into it. Works like a charm AND with firmware 1.11.01!
Fafner - 25.05.04, 00:42

For thosw who get the "SmartScan" error...did you WinXP's "Safely Remove" feature? The manual clearly states that if you disconnect your Muvo from your pc without using the "Safe Remove" thing, you'll get this error.
Firmware 1.11 is supposed to have solved some wrong "SmartScan" errors...

Could be that your CF card is not one of those compatible with the Muvo. Only some cards work.
When I put my CF card into my Muvo, it went into this well known "Recovery Mode", but it never reported a Media Error.
Fafner - 25.05.04, 18:56

Could someone list or give me a link to the CF cards that works with the Muvo2? Thanks!
A.M. - 26.05.04, 04:32

Fafner - You've probably noticed that the instructions posted include the "Safely remove" step.

Ended up getting a Sandisk 256MB for $40 at Costco which works fine in the MuVo. Suspect a speed issue with the Crucial 128MB CF since it also ended up corrupting files when copying to the 128MB CF.
jedi - 26.05.04, 05:01

I chose to use the 256 Sandisk, which seems to be the one that is working for all, The 1.11 flash did not work for me, but the 1.10 did, thanks for the info.
Grnd_Zyro - 27.05.04, 03:49

So does this mean that I can't use my Muvo2 with a Sandisk 512mb w. the latest firmware?? (US 1.12). It doesn't make sense. Why should it work with 1.10 and not 1.11 or the newest firmware? If you can't upgrade the firmware then what's the point having the player?
A.M. - 27.05.04, 14:58

I went with what works, think about what you are saying, this piece of equipement was not made to swap out cards... if you dont want the piece, put it on Ebay someone will grab it.
Grnd_Zyro - 28.05.04, 06:05

Does it work well with firmware v.1.10? Did anyone have success with the new firmware 1.11? Could you make it work and was the player stable?
A.M. - 28.05.04, 23:36

A link to PCFW_US_1_10_01.exe - I know many are looking for this and some of the links supplied here don't work, so here you go, I found it there.
David (link) - 04.06.04, 06:08

Anyone got a link for the European version 1.10??
A.M. - 07.06.04, 13:42

Ok. Just received my Muvo2 and a SanDisk 512mb CF card. Got the Muvo2 goin' within 5 minutes and it works perfect with the newest firmware. Only quirk is that the CF card only shows 468.7mb after format. I also "hi-jacked" the micro drive in my Ipod Mini. I now got 2 4Gb MD's for my digi-cam. Great!
A.M. - 11.06.04, 12:41

I also have hacked the muvo and tried to get it working with a IBM Microdrive 340 MB but am sorry to say it won't work at all. Everything i try results in the media error. The 4GB works perfectly in my 300d over 1200 pics jumm!
Wilfred - 16.06.04, 17:17

Hi, do U still have the MuVo^2(4GB%20MD)_PCFW_US_1_10_01.exe firmware? The only file I find is MuVo^2(4GB%20MD)_PCFW_US_1_11_01.exe and this killed my Muvo2 for the 2nd time now.
TIA
Kory - 21.06.04, 01:50

Same problem with others that the firmware upgrade program would not regcognize the Muvo. Keep telling me that the unit is not plugin. Could you post an answer to this problem for all to see. Thanks
Robert - 27.06.04, 01:16

Hi, I'm trying to format my new Muvo2 version 2. I tried using a Mac to format it, but no luck. Just got the device on amazon 2 weeks ago. and it was with the new plastic package. My card reader won't read it either. I want the 4GB CF for my camera!! :P
Tammy - 29.06.04, 12:31

I just got a shell today and charged up the unit but my pc won't detect it, is there something wrong? Shouldn't it be dected right away?
Mark - 01.07.04, 11:20

For me, the firmware upgrade program wouldn't recognize the the device was plugged in because the muvo, once plugged in, was conflicting with an existing drive share (i.e., I had a share named drive M to a file server, and the muvo was also using that drive letter). Once I changed the drive letter of the muvo to an unused drive letter, the firmware update program had no problem seeing the unit. BTW, this was with Win XP.
Milkman - 09.07.04, 13:23

hi,
hard to be an ignorant! Now have my brandnew muvo^2 4Gb , a broken warranty-seal and Canon d60 which dislike to accept the CF.
I set on the hint to make it run despite the new dongle. Is the any jet? give me note to kalaoze@bigfoot.com

Hi Everyone
I'm in the chicken and egg situation where I need to update the firmware of the muvo2 to 1.10.01 so that it can read my CF card (crucial) but I don't have the orginnal MD as I bought the shell from ebay, does anyone know of a method to replace the firmware with out having to borrow a microdrive from someone? TIA Gary
Gary - 19.07.04, 05:40

A.M. could you clarify that you got the mini disc out of the ipod mini and it was usable in a camera? i had heard this was impossible?
john - 19.07.04, 17:16

Just wondering about the 'SmartScan' error. I got one the other day when I unplugged the MuVo. I plugged it back into the computer and the computer saw the MuVo. Then I ran chkdsk /f h: and it found a few errors and fixed them. Then I unplugged the MuVo and it was fine, didn't have to reformat. Anyone else had any luck with that?
Paul - 02.08.04, 00:17

Oh, and to find the old firmware, do a Google search for '1.10.01', should turn up http://www.techspot.com/drivers/index/fi.. as a result.
Paul - 02.08.04, 00:21

Thanks very much for sharing your instructions here!
j0cker (link) - 13.08.04, 09:48

I can never seem to get it to connect to my pc...I've followed various directions. Using 256 Sandisk...doublechecked install procedures for the card. Unit powers on, give media error. When I run the firmware on my computer, it says the device is not connected. I doublechecked my USB port and it was working (used old muvo 64 mb player to check). Any advice?

Shouldn't it still connect regardless of memory card?

And even still, I supposedly have the card that has the best results? Any advice?
Blake - 16.08.04, 11:05

If it doesn't connect to the pc then it normally means the card hasn't been recognized (or the firmware is corrupted). Older SanDisk cards don't work, but the newer ones generally do.

If you've got the microdrive then the best thing to do is put that back in and check that the MuVo shell still works. The ribbon cable is apparently quite fragile and can cause problems.
Paul - 16.08.04, 16:46

ihave a muvo -but purchased a sandisk muvo -ultra 2-256- -but the only thing that shows is media error and recovery mode v1.00- need help is there another card -
bridget - 31.08.04, 09:46

OK Guys & Girls, I have the Movo i bought it over a year ago, as I heard these storys that it can be used in cameras - so i took a chance as i have a Fugi m603, which there had been no official testing on the Hitiach website at that time - anyway did the surgery and transplant to the cammea and what do you know 'FORMAT ERROR' what ever i tryed through the cammera through the desktop, Through the laptop and through various CF type reader/writers none would get the dam thing to format in a way understood by the cammera, now i check the hitachi website andf it states its is compatable - anyone got any idears on how i can get this drive to work??????

Cheers

I'm new here , thank's to Alex Bernstain from Canon Digital Hacking Group from Yahoo , who sold and ship me from USA to Canada a old model (April 2004) Creative Muvo2 4GB. I have the Canon Powershot S1 IS ,i'm formating the Hitachi Microdrive 4GB in my digital camera no computer needed. After a 5sec formating the microdrive I see 3.8GB capacity , now with this monster card I can take 5000 picture and shoot true 640x480 30fps progressive
little compression for beautiful video(the video take 120MB/min)over 40min.
I buy a Sandisk USB 2 reader Compact Flash I/II to transfer to the computer , a 4GB in less 10 min , with my camera because it just USB 1.1 connection i have to wait 100 min to transfer the Hitachi Microdrive 4GB.
The power consumption of the Microdrive tested with my camera are very good. My camera use 4 AA 2050 Duracell Ni-MH , with this 4 AA baterry I shoot 40 min video , take 230 pictures and transfer to the computer during 100min over USB 1.1 and the baterry it not power dead !
Oh ya today i'm buy a Sandisk 512 Ultra II (10MB/s transfer speed)for 90$ canadian. I'm flashed my Muvo2 with the last firmware verssion : MuVo^2(4GB_uHDD)PCFW_US_1_11_01.exe this working fine for me and i'm very hapy the sound quality are great and clear.
I'm doing some speed test with my new Muvo2 , I transfered 512MB of music from my computer to the player in just 1min and 15sec , wow it extremly fast.
VincentB - 23.09.04, 12:24

Hallo friends, I bought a new 4GBMicrodrive via Ebay for my Minolta Dimage A2. But the seller does not say, that it was in a MP3-Player, which he has bought in US. But the Drive does not work in Camera and not in Cardreader. It was also impossible to format it. I think, it was dongled in the player. So, what can I do. I have not the player, only the Microdrive. Is it scrap or can I use it in another way ?
would be gratefull for help ! Best Regards

Is there anyone that kept a copy of the compatibility list, it's offline and I can't find a list like it on internet, I would gladly host the file on my server for others to see.

I used a Kingston 512MB CF in my Muvo2 4GB, but I would like a bigger one.
